"MTV Awards are really rare," says Garry Shrum of Heritage Auctions, who helped consign the items with Houston's mother Cissy, and sister-in-law Pat. "Generally, people keep them. If you made it on MTV back then, you were there.

Michael Jordan Game-Worn Sneakers

After wearing these Air Jordans in a basketball game, Michael Jordan gifted them to his pal Houston. "The sports-item collectors are a whole different group of people," Shrum says of the likely bidders hoping to score this rare pair. "You should see the prices those items can fetch. It's as competitive as sports." Opening bid: $10,000

1985 Passport

"Whitney's first passport is so cool," Shrum says of the travel document, which Whitney used during the height of her growing fame in the mid-'80s. "You get this cool autograph, plus all this history of where she generated her beginnings." Opening bid: $1,000

Whitney's Personal Inscribed Copy of Long Walk to Freedom.

"Nelson Mandela inscribed this book to Whitney and Bobby in 2000," says Shrum. "It's so cool. Just a piece of iconic history, of two really big people getting together." Opening bid: $1,000

Personalized "Nippy" Leather Jacket

"You really can't get more personal than this," says Shrum of the leather bomber that bore Whitney's childhood nickname. "She wore it on all her tours."

1999 Dolce & Gabanna shoes

The Italian design duo were tasked with designing all the clothes for Whitney's 1999, multi-city US tour. Whitney's sister-in-law Pat told Heritage Auctions, "They did such amazing things with that tour. It was her big fashion tour." These green, embroidered heels are expected to fetch $2,000.

1999 Dolce & Gabanna Fur Coat

"It's just so over-the-top," Shrum says of the black and magenta fur coat that DampG designed for Whitney. "The photos don't do it justice. It's electric. You can just imagine what it looked like under the lights onstage." Opening bid: $1,500

1993 Billboard Music Award for "I Will Always Love You"

"One hundred years from now, people will listen to 'I Will Always Love You' and be like, 'Wow, listen to the range on that woman.' It doesn't age," says Shrum. "I used to play it in my store, and even the punks would come up and tell me how good it was."

Earrings Worn at Her 1992 Wedding to Bobby Brown

These pearl earrings, along with the beaded custom Marc Bouwer wedding dress that Whitney wore at her 1992 wedding to Bobby Brown are also up for sale. "The intricate work that went into the dress is fantastic," Shrum says. "I hope someone buys it for their own wedding." Opening bid: $3,500
