Lotto warning to check tickets after $1 million Mega Millions prize goes unclaimed, it was bought at

LOTTERY officials have sounded warning bells after a $1 million prize ticket inches toward its expiration.

The $1 million Mega Millions ticket, purchased at an Exxon Mobil gas station, has gone unclaimed for five months.

Rhode Island lottery authorities posted a list of over-$10,000 prize tickets that have yet to be claimed on its website.

The headline ticket, a Mega Millions purchased in Cumberland, Rhode Island, is worth $1 million.

The winner bought the ticket on July 18, 2023.

Mega Millions winners in the state have one calendar year to claim their tickets.

If winners don't claim the cash in time, funds will revert to Rhode Island's general government funds.

The state also warned four other prizes - including two $10,000 Mega Millions tickets, a $240,876 Wild Money prize, and a $25,000 a year for Life winner - have yet to be claimed.

Lottery officials announced the winning tickets in August, September, and October.

Dozens of other nationwide lottery tickets remained unclaimed by their winners.

The Washington State Lottery said several tickets - including a $1 million Powerball winner - haven't been claimed.

The winning Powerball was drawn on November 1.

The state also has two Hit 5 tickets that remain uncashed.

Each ticket totals $880,000 in prizes.

Lottery players in Florida, Louisiana, Illinois, and Texas are also sitting on millions in unchecked lottery winnings.

Tickets in the four states add up to over $48 million in earnings.

The winner of Florida's Quick Pick won $44 million back in June.

Their winning numbers are 9, 13, 15, 46, 51, 52.

Quick Pick winners have 180 days from the draw date to make a claim.

Players can also visit the National Council on Problem Gambling website and talk to experts online.
