Conwy fire: Boat goes up in flames off North Wales coast after witnesses hear 'loud explosion'

A BOAT has gone up in flames off the North Wales coast after witnesses reported hearing an "explosion".

Cops, firefighters and paramedics were scrambled to the scene in Conwy Marina, north Wales at 6pm on Saturday evening.

The blaze spread to another boat in the marina before firefighters brought it under control - with billowing smoke seen several miles away.

A woman was taken to hospital after she suffered leg injuries in the fire.

Witness Victoria Bennett tweeted: "The boat is named the Drum, sounded and felt like a gas tank explosion.

"Good response from other boat owners, rescued 2 people, and attempted to put fire out.

"7 mins for fire, then RNLI, then ambulance then police. Fire extended to fisheries boat Lady Megan."

Another witness wrote on social media: "Dramatic fire at Conwy Marina. Fear the worst for those on the boat.

"Loud explosion occurred (like a cannon) before smoke and flames rapidly enveloped the boat.

"Marina staff quickly on hand and emergency services arrived."

Cops confirmed a woman was taken to hospital with leg injuries.

North Wales Police said: "Shortly after 6pm this evening, we received reports of a boat fire at Conwy Marina."

"Officers attended the location, along with colleagues from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Welsh Ambulance Service, and local Coastguard crews.

"The blaze, which had spread to another boat nearby in the marina, was brought under control by fire officers.

"A female sustained leg injuries in this incident and has been taken to hospital.

"No other casualties were reported from the scene.

"A cordon will remain in place whilst the surrounding area is made safe."
